Over the last few days I have been looking into some form of OPEN SOURCE collaboration software for Linux. Of course there is Zimbra, Scalix etc but I was looking for something fully open source. My requirements were to find something that can be synced between Evolution, Outlook (I don’t use it but some others do), Windows Mobile, the iPhone and my Android phone with preferably some form of web interface as well. It didn’t matter if it was a few separate programs (IMAP and something else for instance) as long as it works correctly and was open source. The best I could find was using standard IMAP with Funambol, this allowed me to sync Outlook and Evolution but unfortunately the Funambol client for Android is not very good yet, I couldn’t get it working properly and it doesn’t support calendar syncing anyway.

So basically I am a little stuck and just waiting in the hope that the Funambol client for Android will get up to speed soon. I definately don’t want to go down the commercial route. Has anybody got any other suggestions I may have overlooked?

Hello everybody and welcome to my Linux blog. My name is Bill Giannikos and here I will be talking about my experiences with Linux. As a quick rundown about myself, I have about 11 years of Linux experience having first started off with Redhat Linux 5.2 (with a 2.0 kernel). Since then I have been an advocate of Linux. I have experience with Ubuntu, Fedora, Red Hat, CentOS, Mandriva, Slackware, openSUSE, Debian and a few other as well. I enjoy experimenting with different aspects of Linux, trying to get the most out of it.

Here I plan to talk about some of the projects I am working on as well as share a few tips I have. Hope you enjoy.
